The City of
Carlisle is very grateful for the service of the men and women from the
community that have served in our nation's Armed Forces.

"A Tribute to Our Fallen Comrades" The
entrance to North Municipal Park, at 1st Street and Park St., is
adorned with wrought iron gates supported by brick pillars on each
side. On one pillar is a plaque dedicating the park to those
who gave their lives for their country. On the other pillar is
a plaque bearing their names. The
large gates are permanently closed and someone has attached a yellow
ribbon in support of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Pedestrian gates provide access to a tree shaded drive. The
end of the drive is closed by three flagpoles bearing the
American flag, the Iowa flag, and the American Prisoner of War (POW)
flag. Each side of the drive is lined with memorial plaques,
bearing the names of
Carlisle residents who have served in our nation's Armed Forces. The plaques stand erect and proud
before our nation's flag as once
did the persons who's names are thereon inscribed. Benches
in the shade provide a resting place where one may set and chat
with others or enjoy a moment of silent tribute. |
