The most significant event impacting the professionalism of Iowa law enforcement was state legislation creating the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and mandating that all Iowa police officers be certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.  The officers are required to complete a twelve week basic course at the academy.  The officers return annually for additional in-service training.

Today, all sworn officers on the department are certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.  The officers are required to complete a twelve week basic course at the academy.  The officers are required to return annually for in-service training and are also required to qualify annually with firearms to maintain certification.

Most of the information about the departments past is stashed in boxes and packed away in the basements and attics of family members and descendants of those officers.  If you are a former officer, or a family member or descendant of a former officer, and would like to contribute to the departments history, and the history of Carlisle, the department would be very appreciative.
