perhaps a first kiss from a teenage sweetheart? You are

"I was just a little girl
still hanging on to my momma's hand when the park opened up, so
probably was the early 1920's. Back then there was a 3 day long
celebration at the Park for the 4th of July. There would be tents
up, stands that sold watermelons, pop and other goodies. It was a
wonderful affair to go to as a girl. The bathroom was a 2 holer
outhouse which I seemed to frequent as a kid, must've been all the
pop! We would walk around and visit with the folks my family
knew. When messy my momma would spit on her kerchief and then
scrub my face to her satisfaction. I would be allowed to ride the
pay swings, you know the kind that swing you around like a
merry-go-round. Sometimes music would be playing and others there
would be talking about the entertainment in the grand stand. I
found that boring so don't actually know what the talking was
about. Later I recall the Eastern Star added a beautiful flower
bed in the shape of a star all in their colors. Eventually the
event was reduced to a one day celebration. I still have many many
fond memories of growing up in Carlisle."
Sincerely, Constance Keeney Jameson, 92 years old

Fishing at North
Park
(Dave Baber)
"I can remember back in 1954 and
1955, when they used to
flood the area where the flower gardens are now and put bullheads
in the resulting pond for us kids to catch.
Also, I remember Easter egg hunts that used to be at
North Park. You
could get prizes for some of them. If memory serves me
right they
started at $5.00 and worked their way down from there.
I wonder if anyone remembers the old motorcycle hill
climb that used
to be on the very north end of the park. I remember when we
got older (
old enough to own a car) how we used to go down by the river a try
to
get our cars up the hill climb. I could go on.
Those were the days."
